Council of Administrators of Special Education | CASE

CASE is an international professional organization that provides leadership to advance the field of special education through professional learning, policy, and advocacy. 

CASE is a Division of the Council of Exceptional Children (CEC) and was organized in 1951 in New York, NY at the annual CEC Convention.

CASE Update Re: Proposed Regulations for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

We still have no new information as to when the proposed regulations will be published. We continue to monitor the Unified Agenda of Federal Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions. 

OCR announced on May 6, 2022, its intent to issue proposed revisions to the 45-year-old 504 regulations enacted in 1977. In the fall of 2022, the Department included in the President's Regulatory Agenda the intent to have the proposed amended regulations out by May 2023. That did not happen, and on June 14, 2023, the regulatory agenda was amended to reflect the intent to issue the proposed regulations in August 2023. As of today, the President's Fall Unified Agenda most recently reflects an issuance date for the proposed regulations of November 2023. Continue watching the CASE website for the most up-to-date information regarding 504 proposed regulations.

Sept 6 —		Academy of Law and Leadership: Call for Proposals Call for proposals are due by September 6, 2024 The Council of Administrators of Special Education invites you to submit a proposal to present a concurrent session at the CASE Academy of Law and Leadership in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 22-24, 2025.
